“Summer Jobs,” the new Facebook commercial from Droga5, follows a teenager named Gracie chasing a vintage pickup truck she found on Marketplace. She can’t afford it, so she pieces together a summer of odd jobs, pet sitting, yard work, gigs found through people she’d never have met otherwise, to get there.
For the music, we brought in “Escape” by Destroy Boys. The track has the grit the spot needed: raw, a little defiant, built for a kid grinding toward something that matters to her instead of waiting for it to show up.
Licensing and supervision on a piece like this is about matching tempo to ambition. Gracie’s summer isn’t polished, and the song shouldn’t be either.
Directed by Mark Molloy. Live 7/13.
